Reality Therapy – a therapeutic approach that focuses on problem-solving and making better choices in order to achieve specific goals. Developed by Dr. William Glasser, reality therapy is focused on the here and now rather than the past.

Existentialism therapy focuses on free will, self-determination, and the search for meaning, often centering on you rather than on the symptom. The approach emphasizes your capacity to make rational choices and to develop to your maximum potential.

Social Integration / Social Skills – A sense of belonging is an essential human need, along with food and shelter. Connection to others is what gives life meaning and is effective for coping with intensely painful emotions. Social connectivity to a greater community promotes our motivation, health, and happiness. Interpersonal Effectiveness skills are necessary for maintaining healthy relationships and includes attending to important relationships, balancing priorities over demands, setting boundaries, respecting others and the self, and getting our needs and wants met.

Psychoanalytic Theories – the goal of psychoanalytic therapy is to help patients better understand the unconscious forces that can play a role in current behaviors, thoughts, and emotions.

Behaviourism – Behaviorism emphasizes the role of environmental factors in influencing behavior, to the near exclusion of innate or inherited factors. This amounts essentially to a focus on learning. We learn new behavior through classical or operant conditioning (collectively known as ‘learning theory’).

Fitness & Nutrition – A healthy balanced diet and regular exercise is essential for maintaining physical and mental health, and well-being. Having a ritualised fitness regime, and understanding the importance of health beneficial foods in our diet, can help prevent many physical diseases and promote sleep, cognitive functioning and mood.

Recovery Principles – supports a person’s potential for recovery from a mental health disorder, especially addiction. Recovery is a very personal, unique process of changing one’s attitudes, values, feelings, goals, skills and/or roles.
